Myself and a group of Canberra Food Bloggers were recent guests of Sushant Bohle, owner of 7 by the Lake, a new Indian restaurant which opened four months ago and is located at the Southern end of the Kingston Foreshore. This area of Canberra has become a thriving food destination for the City, choice is amazing. 7 by the Lake is the only Indian on the block and was just perfect on a cold winters night.
Sushant has been catering for Canberrans for many years (his samosas are legendary) and opened the restaurant to showcase cuisine from 7 regions of India. He is refining his menu, the new menu will be launched on 1 Sept 2016. He has all sorts of ideas for the warmer weather and showcasing Indian street food in the spring/summer seasons.
The restaurant offers Maharashtrian, Punjabi, Bengali, Rahasthani, Goan, Gujarati and South Indian cuisine.
We commenced our feast with a unique cold vegetarian starter of spinach fritters, potatoes, onions flavoured with roasted cumin, yoghurt, tamarind chutney and spicy mint and coriander chutney. This street food dish was unusual and delicious.
The next entree, another street food offering was Chicken Lollypop, served with a vibrant mint sauce.
Next was the banquet:
Murgh Makhani (Butter Chicken)
Bpamese Fish Curry
Bengali Chicken Curry
Lasooni Palak Peneer
Three types of naan - Laccha Paratha, Masala Kulcha & Garlic
So much flavour, colour and a little heat! A big thank you to Shushant, check out the website www.sevenbythelake.com where you can download the menu, book a table or order a takeaway.
